New BURDEL DALI Digital Press Kit

We’re a little weirded out this evening, seems like the text size in our blog font increases dramatically as you scroll down the page. What is up with that?

Despite this bizarre item of interest, we wanted to share our newest digital press kit in PDF format. Spread it around, send it to friends who love to party/are getting married soon/are having a gallery opening/need awesome DJ sets between bands at an upcoming show…!

Peace out mohonz.

STUMBLEBUM BRASS BAND! Kickstarter & tour

We know we’re posting up a lot of kickstarter promo lately for our friends’ bands—but they’re awesome, and they deserve some funding from music lovers! Our most recent pledge goes to The Stumblebum Brass Band, an insanely talented group that are about to take the West Coast by storm. You can help them along on Kickstarter here (thank you gifts include Whiskey and live music). Details below.

“The Stumblebums are off to the West Coast in March and we’re looking for some help.  We started a Kickstarter campaign to help pay for a van rental, airfare, lodging, etc…  Most folks don’t know how expensive it is to keep us three boys safely on the road.  Well, unfortunately it is.  We’re reaching out to our loyal fans to help offset some of those costs and to expose the band to other regions of the US of A.  There’s no label, there’s no government grant, there’s no sponsor, it’s just the three of us playing our little hearts out for you and whoever else wanders into our path.

We get a lot of emails from people from all over the US of A asking us to play their town.  To be honest, we make it to as many of the big cities and some of the most obscure out of the way places as we can.  We love doing this and there’s always a good party wherever we go.  Would we love it if someone hit us up with $5K?  Hell yeah we would.  We’d make a point of putting that into our March tour schedule.  We certainly know that not everyone is running around with $5K to give to us but we do know that every $1, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100, etc…  counts.

We’re starting to sound like Jerry Lewis on the Labor Day Telethon…  and well…  you know what we’re asking.

We’ve got 40 days to make our $2K campaign bid on Kickstarter.  We don’t make the $2K in 40 days then we don’t get any money at all.  That’s how Kickstarter works.  You can buy a CD for $10, you can buy an autographed CD for $20, $25 gets you an autographed CD and a Jonny Ballz drumstick.  As you see, the more you buy the more you get.  Wait ’til you see what we’ll do for $10k!  We also made a special video for the Kickstarter campaign.

At least watch that.  It’s funny.  Also, forward this to your friends from this email or from our Facebook page. Everything you do helps us.Click here to go to Kickstarter and to watch the video!
Thanks,
The Stumblebums”

THE RUSSIAN WEDDING!

We DJ’d a Russian wedding in Cazenovia last September and we just finished up this quick bit of video evidence on how much effing fun it was. Jenia & Sergey, the happy couple, were so awesome and accommodating, and they let us turn their wedding into a raging dance party.

Zlatne Uste Brass Band’s GOLDEN FESTIVAL

Golden Festival is put on by Zlatne Uste Brass Band every year, and this year the Burdel Familia finally got our asses over there for a night of rampant celebration in the hyper-opulent surroundings of the Grand Prospect Hall ballroom.

Think pastel-painted molding, chandeliers big enough for 5 people to swing on, balconies overlooking enormous dance floors, and room after room of live music ranging from Spanish flamenco to Bulgarian gypsy-jazz to Ukrainian marches. We saw some of our friends and favorite bands: Kagero, Yuri Yunakov & The Grand Masters of Gypsy Music, Raya Brass Band, Avram Pengas, and tons more. It was killer.

We had the absolute pleasure of seeing Toronto’s Lemon Bucket Orkestra perform in the grand ballroom and were so blown away we teamed up with our partner in musical crime, Michael Katsobashvili, to escort the band back to Mehanata, where they performed for a packed club and then stayed with us on the mezzanine, jamming until 7:30AM.

There are really no words to describe what an amazing weekend it was altogether. We want to say a huge, huge thank you to the performers, to Zlatne Uste for organizing the whole thing, and for Lemon Bucket for letting us caravan them through the broken NYC subway system very late at night so we wouldn’t have to let the experience end any earlier than absolutely necessary. Look out for Lemon Bucket’s valiant return to NYC ASAP (or our imminent trip to Toronto, whichever happens first).

There was really no better way to start 2012.

Heads up, we are editing a video or two from our 6 gigs of festival footage so you can re-live this night with us!

Vice Guide To The Balkans… Inside Ex-Yugoslavia

Vice posted up their Guide to the Balkans (in 5 parts), which is basically an American dude and his team traveling through former-Yugoslavia, talking to different groups about nationalism, history, and violence. They encounter young Albanians in Kosovo, elderly Serbians clinging festively to the reign of Tito, Roma children with severe lead poisoning, and a guy named Elvis who turns a car into a “fog machine.” Check out our synopsis-by-the-episode over the next couple of days (and obviously, watch the videos).

Vice Guide To The Balkans, Part 1 (click to watch)

Episode 1 covers a brief, broad history of Yugoslavia, once united by one Josip Marshal Tito Broz (easily the most affectionately thought-of communist leader for his strides to help the working class citizens). Upon his death, Yugoslavia broke into fractions, starting with Slovenia, Macedonia, and Croatia (ending with 9 conflicting territories and a displaced Serbian president).

“We went to the Balkans to find out whether Yugoslavians are just like you-and-me-goslavians.”

The opening montage? Rakia shots getting slung back, kids pushing a car, old women dancing, barns on the hillside, women with fake tits, and our host pissing from an overpass onto the streets below, all set to a classic, pounding Bregovic anthem.

The host and his crew set off in a crappy car with a floppy fuel gauge and broken seat belts. They arrive in Yugoland, an attraction that celebrates the glory of former-Yugoslavia in its hey-day. They chat with its founder, Blasko Gabric, who has a lot to share (including his theory that America has tornadoes because God is really pissed off at Americans). Tito’s grandson also makes an appearance, with a cast of elderly Serbians who are keeping Yugoslavia alive in their hearts.

Vice Guide To The Balkans, Part 2—5 are coming up. Stay tuned.
